Welcome
We are delighted to welcome you to the web site of NCHS – The Science College. We are an 11 - 16 mixed comprehensive school of 500 pupils based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. The school is very much a community and was recently described as “a mini town where everybody gets along” by one of the pupils.
On 1st December 2008 NCHS and Clayton Hall Business and Language College began to work closely together. At the request of both governing bodies the schools became federated on 1st February 2010 forming the South Newcastle Federation. This now means that both schools have one governing body to drive up standards and one leadership team to push NCHS to new academic heights. The change has been significant and swift. Academic standards are rising sharply and student achievement is improving rapidly. We believe young people attend NCHS to learn and it is our job to shape that learning.
At NCHS – The Science College the emphasis is on achievement. We believe passionately that a school should teach its students well and nurture their talents. Success is celebrated and students are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.
NCHS is a happy school where young people support each other and face the challenges of academic work positively. It is a great place to both learn and work. Ofsted recently reported the school as being a “satisfactory and improving school” (July 2009).
