We are delighted to welcome you to the web site of NCHS – The Science College. We are an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school of 500 pupils based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. The school is very much a community; Ofsted noted that “students are proud of their school and enjoy coming”. Added to this, academic achievement is rising rapidly year on year and GCSE results clearly indicate that pupil progress is exceptional from year 7 to 11.
In February 2010 NCHS became part of the South Newcastle Federation when it federated with Clayton Hall Business and Language College. This has brought a shared sense of new opportunity, stability and leadership for both schools. Ofsted reported on the Leadership at NCHS to be both “outstanding and inspirational”. The federation means that there is one governing body across the two schools to drive up standards and an Executive Headteacher who, alongside the Associate Headteachers pushes both schools to new academic heights.
Here at NCHS young people attend to learn and it is our job to shape that learning. Ofsted’s most recent visit reported that “the majority” of lessons observed were either “good or outstanding".
At NCHS – The Science College the emphasis is on achievement. We believe passionately that a school should teach its students well and nurture their talents. Success is celebrated and students are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.
In 2010 the school was judged to have made "Good Progress" since the last inspection and was judged to have a "Good Capacity" to improve.
NCHS prides itself on its pastoral care. Its size and facilities provide a spacious environment for pupils to learn and grow. Ofsted noted that students “have respect for each other, the school and their local community”. Students themselves feel fully supported and safe commenting that “a clear set of rules make for a much more enjoyable and consistent learning ethos”.
NCHS is a happy school where young people support each other and face the challenges of academic work positively. It is a great place to both learn and work.
