Child Development
This course will be of particular interest to those who would like to work with children and families.
They will learn about how children develop from conception to five years, including family life, pregnancy and antenatal care. They will develop an understanding of all aspects of a child’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs as they grow and develop. Pupils will also study the importance of parenthood, the need for a healthy well-balanced diet and community responsibilities – through visits, outside speakers, use of videos and DVDs.
Assessment - Coursework - 60%: Child study – observation and record development of a child over a period of six months. Short tasks set by the board, including designing a pregnancy leaflet for an expectant mum, comparing a range of nappies available on the high street.
Exam - 40% Pupils will sit a written exam.
