Food Technology
GCSE Food Technology is a two year course. Over the two years you will be expected to complete a folder consisting of a design project from a range of themes set by the exam board. This is worth 60% of the total mark. At the end of the course you will sit an exam by the AQA exam board and this will make up the remaining 40% of your final grade.
Food Technology is a very exciting, creative and interesting subject to study. There is much to learn but most of this will involve ‘learning-by-doing’. You will be expected to participate in practical cookery sessions every week to learn about foods, ingredients, processes and techniques. You will learn about the design process and have the opportunity to design and make your own products.
ICT will play an important role in improving the presentation of your project. You will learn how to assess and evaluate your product’s quality. You will also have the opportunity to develop your personal learning, organisation skills and independence. These transferable skills are extremely valuable in any work place.
