Health and Social Care
Health and social care at NCHS is delivered at key stage 4. We offer the Btec qualification which is 100% course work based and is equivalent to two GCSE’s C grade and above. This is a great vocational qualification in which the pupils cover four units of work over two years including:
- Communication in health and social care – enables pupils to gain knowledge, understanding and practical skills they need to be able to communicate effectively within a health and social care environment. Pupils learn about the different ways of communicating with an understanding of possible barriers.
- Individual needs in health and social care – enables pupils to gain knowledge, understanding and skills related to meeting individual needs and how they might be addressed in improving the health and well being of an individual.
- Vocational Experience in health and social care – enables pupils through their work experience to explore different ways of applying for a job and developing interpersonal skills to prepare the pupils for the world of work when they leave school.
- The impact of diet on health – enables pupils to gain knowledge and understanding of diets and their impact on health and well being. Pupils get to carry out investigations into different types of diets and also the importance of good hygiene and safety in the kitchen.
Most lessons take place in one of our computer suites which offers a very spacious and welcoming learning environment with interactive whiteboard.
Health and social care has been running for two years now at NCHS in which pupils have achieved some fantastic results in which we are very proud. Many of the pupils have gone on to study level 3 courses at college as a route to various occupations within the health and social care sector.
