History Field Trips
Year 9 students are currently studying the persecution of the Jews in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust itself. The particular focus is looking at different historical interpretations of this event. Students visited the centre in November. The visit allowed the students to investigate further the events leading up to the Holocaust by studying the extensive exhibition there. This was followed by some reflective time in the Memorial Gardens. The highlight of the visit, however, was that the students engaged with a Holocaust survivor, a truly unique experience.
A group of 20 pupils have recently visited Auschwitz. This has provided a unique opportunity to visit perhaps the most notorious death camp of all. The visit included a guided tour of the historic medieval town of Krakow and a visit to the Jewish Kazimierz district and the only working synagogue still left in Krakow. Students also had the opportunity to visit the Schindler Museum which links in to the work that Year 9 students are studying on the Holocaust and Spielberg’s interpretation of it. There was also an opportunity for students to experience the cultural aspects of Krakow itself by visiting a Christmas market.
The pictures are a selection from both visits.
