Year 9
Pupils start GCSE work at the beginning of Y9, this work will last for their remaining time at NCHS.
Initially they will build the skills they need for their first unit of coursework. This includes research skills and database skills. Pupils will learn how to accurately record their sources of information and consider how to know if the sources are reliable. They will also look at creating databases, making them easier to use and searching databases to find relevant information.
Once the skills builder work is done they will complete the first of 4 activities for the coursework which is a project set by the exam board which changes every year.
They will also complete theory tasks to enable them to answer exam questions. The theory covered in Y9 is on mobile phones and computers. They will learn to consider important points when buying any piece of hardware for a specific purpose.
