Welcome to the Religious Education Department.

R.E. is a very well-equipped department and has many excellent resources.  The main classroom is Room 40 and many people have  commented that the room has a lovely atmosphere where they feel safe, warm and inspired.  The many religious artefacts around the room and colourful wall displays are stimulating and allow questions to be discussed.  The department is proud to display pupil’s work which is always to be celebrated and shared with others.

So, what is R.E. all about then?  And why do R.E. in the first place?

Well, R.E. is for all people who love life, who value the world they live in and who like to ask questions and think about the answers they discover.  R.E. is about respect for others and tolerance and understanding.  We live in a huge world filled with billions of people who have different beliefs, customs and ways of living.  We should celebrate this as we can learn so much from each other.  The more we learn about each others faiths and beliefs and the way we live, the greater the understanding and this in turn will break down prejudice, mistrust and misunderstanding and make our world a better place.

R.E. is about US, living on a beautiful planet that fills us with awe and wonder as we discover more of its wonderful places.

You don’t have to be religious to enjoy R.E. or think that R.E. is only for people who want to be a nun or a priest!!

R.E. is for people who want to learn about each other because we are all human and need each other to make the best of what we have.

There are opportunities in R.E. for visitors to come into school and work with pupils in the classroom or visits to other people’s place of worship.  In the past, we have had trips to the Sikh Gurdwara (Temple) and Hindu Temple in Birmingham, we have visited the Cathedrals in Liverpool and visited a Jewish community in Manchester.

R.E. is taught at GCSE level and is a valuable subject for those thinking of a career in the police force, nursing, retail, hotel work, teaching, travel agencies – the list is endless!

Whatever you do when you leave school, the knowledge you have gained in R.E. will always help you as you work alongside so many people of different backgrounds and faiths.

And you never know – one day when you are on ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ or any other quiz contest, your answer to a religious set question could make you a winner!

Have an open-mind and a desire to learn!

Be prepared to have your beliefs challenged!

We have one world and usually one chance to do the best we can – R.E. shows you how you may do it.
