GCSE Textiles Technology is a two year course. Over the two years you will be expected to complete a folder consisting of a design project from a range of themes set by the exam board. This is worth 60% of the total mark. At the end of the course you will sit an exam by the AQA exam board and this will make up the remaining 40% of your final grade.

You will acquire many different skills such as printing, batik, embroidery, sewing machine skills, pattern making and construction. You will learn how to embellish fabrics to make an accessory such as a bag or choose between making fashion items, cushions, or toys suitable for a child.

ICT will play an important role in improving the presentation of your project. You will learn how to assess and evaluate your product’s quality. You will learn the theory side of textiles to enable further textiles knowledge and sit the final exam.

GCSE Textiles is a perfect grounding for ‘A’ level textiles, which can lead to university courses in Fashion, Textiles and Art. Careers in Fashion, Retail, Interior Design and Teaching
